ARLINGTON, Texas - Erasing the a 3-2 Maverick with one swing of the bat, junior Josh Campbell socked a go-ahead three-run homer in the 'Jacks' six-run fourth inning, but UT-Arlington had the last laugh. The Mavericks plated two runs in the seventh and four more in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 9-8 walk-off victory over SFA.
SCORING SUMMARY
T1 | Giving starting pitcher Alex Palmer a lead to work with right off the bat, SFA plated a pair of runs before the Mavericks got a chance to bat. Jake Georgiades reached on UT-Arlington's first error of the night and scored the game's first run on Jared Martin's one-out double. Martin made it 2-0 when Sean Moore registered an RBI groundout.
B1 | Though Palmer managed to rack up a trio of strikeouts in the home half of the first, the last one didn't come before the Mavericks evened things up. Andrew Miller punched a one-out double to left and on an infield single by Anthony Dominguez, Jordan Monacy committed an error at first base that allowed Miller to come home and tie things at 2-2.
B2 | Jose Minjarez's leadoff single eventually turned into the Mavericks' third run which gave the home team its first and only lead of the game. A sacrifice bunt moved Minjarez over to second and after an infield single put runners on first and second Minjarez came home on an odd play. Zac Cook legged out a fielder's choice ball to second but got thrown out a second trying to advance on the play. The signified the inning's third out, but Minjarez scampered home for the go-ahead run during the play.
T4 | A seven-hit, six-run fourth broke things open for the visitors. Manny Vasquez and Jordan Monacy started the frame with back-to-back singles off of Drew Moffat before Josh Campbell put the 'Jacks on top for good by hammering a three-run homer beyond the left field fence. Armed with a 5-2 lead, SFA continue to pile it on when Jared Martin reached on the Mavericks' second error of the game. That allowed Brandon Uhse, who reached on a single, to come home. Sean Moore capped the six-run frame with a two-run single to center field that handed SFA an 8-3 lead.
B7 | After being held scoreless by Palmer for four frames, the Mavericks cut into the 'Jacks' lead with some two-out hitting. Palmer registered his eighth and final strikeout of the night before Minjarez connected for a double. From there, senior right-hander Austin Hearn came on and registered the second out. Before he could get the third, however, UT-Arlington's Connor Aube roped an RBI triple to right field and Cook added an infield RBI single to trim SFA's lead to 8-5.
B9 | Zac Cook started the Mavericks' rally with an RBI double after Tyler Starks walked the first two men he faced in the frame. From there, Jeremy Rodriguez came on and loaded the bases when he hit the first batter he faced. After that, the junior got a popout to keep the bases loaded and minimized the damage with an RBI groundout. Just one out away from victory, Rodriguez watched as Vasquez threw the ball away on a grounder off the bat of David Renning. That error allowed two unearned runs to score and finished the game.
