Banfield Ties School Record with Seven Threes in 104-46 Win over Central Christian

NACOGDOCHES, TX -- Marissa Banfield tied a school record with seven 3-pointers as the SFA women's basketball team beat the Central Christian (KS) Tigers 104-46 at home Saturday.
SFA improved to 5-2 overall following the victory.
Banfield's 21 point effort led the Ladyjacks. Aiyana Johnson helped out with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals and Stephanie Visscher chipped in with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
SFA shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 24 assists on 42 made field goals. Johnson totaled six assists to pace the Ladyjacks.
SFA did a great job disrupting Central Christian (KS) shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Aaliyah Johnson led the way individually for the Ladyjacks with two rejections.

GAME SUMMARY
After jumping out to a 5-2 advantage, SFA went on a 14-0 run with 7:35 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Aiyana Johnson, to increase its lead to 19-2. The Ladyjacks then added 11 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 36-8 advantage. SFA did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 36 points close to the basket.
SFA built that first quarter lead to 40-11 before going on a 12-0 run starting at the 8:20 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Alyssa Mayfield, to increase its lead to 52-11. The Ladyjacks proceeded to tack on six points to that lead and enjoyed a 64-17 advantage heading into halftime. SFA was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 28 points.
Following intermission, SFA continued to expand their advantage, pushing it to 77-27 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Aaliyah Johnson, to expand its lead further to 83-27 with 2:16 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Tigers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Ladyjacks still entered the fourth quarter with a 84-32 edge. SFA knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 20 total points.
SFA kept widening that lead, expanding it to 90-37 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Mikayla Hutchinson's three, to grow the lead to 95-37 with 6:18 to go in the contest. The Ladyjacks held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 104-46 win. SFA got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 20 of its 20 total points.
