
SFA scores 31 points off of turnovers in 82-51 win over McNeese State

NACOGDOCHES, TX -- The SFA women's basketball team scored 31 points off of turnovers on the way to an 82-51 victory against the McNeese State Cowgirls at home Saturday.
SFA's overall record moved to 8-2 and conference record improved to 2-0 after the victory.
The Ladyjacks had four players score in double figures, led by Stephanie Visscher, who had 19 points and five assists. Aiyana Johnson added 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Alyssa Mayfield helped out with 12 points and six steals off of the bench.
SFA shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 21 assists on 34 made field goals. Visscher totaled five assists to lead the Ladyjacks.
SFA forced 29 McNeese State turnovers while committing 18 themselves in Saturday's game. The Ladyjacks turned those takeaways into 31 points on the offensive end of the floor. Mayfield led the way individually with six steals.

GAME SUMMARY
SFA kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 15-11.
McNeese State kept adding to that lead, building a 17-11 advantage before SFA went on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Marissa Banfield, to take a 21-17 lead. The Cowgirls cut into that lead, but the Ladyjacks still enjoyed a 32-29 advantage heading into halftime. SFA dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 21 points close to the basket.
SFA continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 11-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kennedy Harris, to expand its lead further to 54-41 with 1:04 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Ladyjacks added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 57-43 edge. SFA played well near the basket, scoring 18 of its 25 points in the paint.
SFA started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 10-0 run, finished off by BriAnna Mitchell's layup, to grow the lead to 67-43 with 7:38 to go in the contest. The Ladyjacks kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 82-51 win. SFA took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 18 of its 25 points in the paint.
