Banfield Breaks Single-Game Three Point Record in 87-75 Win

NACOGDOCHES, TX -- Marissa Banfield, Aiyana Johnson and Stephanie Visscher each recorded at least 20 points to help lead the SFA women's basketball team past the Our Lady of the Lake Saints 87-75 at home Sunday.
SFA improved to 9-2 overall following the win.
Banfield, who broke the SFA school record for threes in a single game with eight, led the Ladyjacks with 29 points. Johnson tacked on 24 points and six rebounds and Visscher helped out a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Visscher pulled down six offensive rebounds to lead the Ladyjacks, powering second chance opportunites for SFA's offense. The team nabbed 20 boards and turned them into 15 second chance points in the contest.
The SFA defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Sunday's game, forcing 13 Our Lady of the Lake turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. BriAnna Mitchell led the way individually for the Ladyjacks with three steals.

GAME SUMMARY
After playing to an 8-8 tie early in the game, SFA went on a 6-0 run with 7:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Banfield, to take a 14-8 lead. The Ladyjacks then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 31-25 advantage. SFA relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down seven shots to account for 21 of its 31 points.
The Ladyjacks couldn't maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 47-43.
SFA came out of haltime rallying and had constructed a 60-55 lead before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Johnson, to expand its lead further to 69-55 with 13 seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. SFA played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 26 points in the paint.
SFA kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Visscher's three, to grow the lead to 82-65 with 3:00 to go in the contest. The Saints narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Ladyjacks still cruised the rest of the way for the 87-75 win. SFA took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 18 points in the paint.
