NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team is back in action at William R. Johnson Coliseum this weekend, hosting the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa (3-2) in a Saturday matinee fresh off the holiday. SFA (3-1) rides a three-game winning streak into the mid-afternoon matchup, with all three of those victories coming inside the friendly confines of William R. Johnson Coliseum. The clash with Tulsa is the 12thinstallment of a series which spans back to the 1982-83 series and has been evenly split, with Tulsa owning a slight 6-5 advantage.
Saturday's contest will be shown on ESPN+ and the ESPN App, with Bobby Mauro delivering the call of all the action. Fans can also keep up with the game via the airwaves on FM Q107.7 locally and nationwide on the TuneIn app. Live stats are available at the top of this page, and fans are encouraged to follow the Ladyjacks on Twitter (@SFA_WBB) and Instagram (@SFA_WBB) for more content during and after the game.
The home team has by and large dominated the rivalry between the Ladyjacks and the Golden Hurricane, with a Tulsa upset inside Johnson Coliseum during the 2010-11 season representing the lone time the home team has not held serve. Most recently, the 'Jacks bested Tulsa 73-69 during the 2012-13 campaign, a result the Ladyjacks will look to replicate in front of a supportive home crowd. Indeed, the home court advantage for SFA is notable, and a 39-7 record there in the past four seasons is as strong an indicator as any of SFA's potency in "the Sawmill".
SFA's recent victory over Our Lady of the Lake earlier this week was a notable one. In addition to being SFA's third win in a row, the victory also moved two players into double-digit scoring for the season. The 'Jacks are still led by Chanell Hayes (15.8 ppg), but are seeing more production out of Imani Johnson (12.0 ppg) and Riley Harvey (10.0), and are now averaging 72.3 points as a team. The Ladyjacks are making their mark at the three-point line, knocking down 9.8 treys per game at a 36.8 percent clip, figures that rank 21stand 58thin the nation, respectively. All five Ladyjack starters can knock down shots at the perimeter, and the bench unit has also chipped in some shooting prowess as well.
Defensively, the Ladyjacks will have their hands full trying to stop a 1-2 punch for Tulsa, beginning with 6-2 senior forward Crystal Polk. The Lawton, Oklahoma native is averaging 15.6 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game, with some of her best work being done on the offensive glass, where she averages about half her rebounds. Polk is converting on 52 percent of her attempts from the field and can make teams pay at the line as well, with a 78 percent average there as well. Alexis Gaulden is the team's playmaking guard, averaging 13.2 points and just over three assists per game. The Golden Hurricane haven't hit a high number of shots from beyond the arc this season (5.1 per game), but Gaulden leads the team with eight made threes thus far.
