HOUSTON, Texas - Stephen F. Austin rang up three second-half goals as the Ladyjacks rolled to their third consecutive win Sunday with a 3-1 decision at Houston Baptist. The victory marked SFA's second straight on the road.
Jordan King scored her fourth goal in the last three games, and Kim Kimmel found the net twice for the second multi-goal game of her career.
"We put together a good performance today," SFA head coach Tony Amato said. "We were able to possess the ball and looked dangerous going forward. Kimmel finished off two good attacking combinations and Jordan capitalized on a set piece. It was great to pick up the road win."
The three-game win streak is the longest of the season for the Ladyjacks and matches their best streak from a year ago. SFA moves to 5-3-0 on the season, while Houston Baptist falls to 1-5-0 with its fifth consecutive loss.
After a scoreless first period, King got SFA on the board in the 59th minute. Becky Johnson served the ball in on a corner kick, and King put it in to give the Ladyjacks a 1-0 lead.
SFA's second goal came just three minutes later on a nice combination. Kylie Louw ran onto a ball off the foot of Brenda Salazar. Louw worked her way down to the end line, then sent a pass back toward the middle for Kimmel, who finished from just outside the six-yard box. The goal proved to be the fifth game-winner of Kimmel's career.
Molly Missimer brought the Huskies to within a goal of tying the score in the 68th minute when she put home a header, but Kimmel added some insurance in the 86th minute, again on an assist from Louw, to put the game away. The goal is Kimmel's fourth of the season, moving her into a tie with King for the team lead. It also marks the 12th goal of her career, leaving her tied for 10th on the SFA all-time list. Her 30 career points are also tied for 10th.
The two assists for Louw give her 13 for her career, putting her in fourth place on the SFA ledger. The game also marked her second career multi-assist performance.
The Ladyjacks held Houston Baptist to just five shot attempts - the fewest by an SFA opponent this season - while SFA took aim 14 times. King was credited with four shots, including three on goal, while Laura Sadler, Louw, Salazar and Kimmel took two shots apiece.
Aside from Missimer's goal, the Huskies managed to put just two shots on goal, and SFA goalkeeper Courtney Bauder (5-3-0) stopped both.
The Ladyjacks will try to match their longest win streak since 2008 when they host Texas Southern next Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
