Musser earns first career shutout as Platt nets two in SFA victory
HOUSTON, Texas — The Ladyjacks beat Texas Southern 3-0 on Thursday, snapping their six-game losing streak. SFA put 10 of its 15 shots on goal and limited Texas Southern to five shots while Musser recorded the shutout in net.
Freshman Savanna Oberholtzer opened the scoring for the Ladyjacks at 22:34, putting SFA ahead 1-0 in the first half. Earlier, Carlie Thurmond and Alexa Alvarez each hit the left woodwork, with Brandie Musser saving Texas Southern's early shot on frame. Kensley Smith and Lucie Platt added shots after the goal, as the Jacks took their 1-0 lead into the half.
Platt found the back of the net twice in the second half, converting a penalty kick at the start of the second half, and finishing Amélie Prié's assist at 62:51 for a 3-0 lead. Musser made two saves between the two Ladyjacks goals, with SFA putting four more shots on goal from 71:06 on. The score held through full time as SFA won, 3-0.
Platt scored twice, finished with four points and put all three of her shots on goal. Oberholtzer converted her lone shot for a goal that was credited as both the first goal and the game-winner. Prié recorded SFA's lone assist. Musser played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves, and finished with a shutout.
SFA moves to 2-6-0 overall. Texas Southern drops to 1-5-1 on the season.
