LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks shot 51 percent from the floor and got a career-high 21 points from freshman Whitney Cormier, but it wasn't enough to defeat Arkansas-Little Rock. The Trojans rallied for a 68-66 victory over SFA Tuesday night at the Jack Stephens Center to end the Ladyjacks' season-high five game win streak.
After falling behind early in the first half, the Ladyjacks went on a 27-5 run to reclaim the lead in the first half. SFA shot 17-of-28 (61 percent) from the floor in the opening half to take an 11-point lead into the halftime.
SFA seemed to be in control of the game until the Trojans' Jocelyn Love got hot from beyond the arc. She knocked down five consecutive three-pointers and finished the game with 24 points to help UALR reclaim a one-point advantage. The Trojans pushed their lead to as many as seven points late in the game, before SFA made one last rally.
After a Cormier three-pointer cut the lead to two points, SFA got the ball back and less than 10 seconds on the clock. Junior Nikki Carr was fouled going to the basket, but was able to convert only one of her two free throws.
SFA shot 51 percent from the floor, and 67 percent from beyond the arc. SFA also outrebounded their opponents, 37-26. Senior Charity Egenti scored 14 points, while Carr added 13.
The Ladyjacks will look to rebound Wednesday in Hot Springs, Ark, against the Lady Razorbacks. The game against No. 25 Arkansas is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from the Summit Arena.
