NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Crissy Autry was perfect through the first four innings Sunday against Nicholls State, not allowing a Lady Colonel to reach base. That changed in the top of the fifth when the Colonels tied the score on a solo home run off the bat of Nichole Wagner. That was the first hit allowed by Autry and opened the gates as Nicholls State (7-11,3-6) added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat SFA (10-16, 1-5) 5-2, and win the Southland Conference series two games to one.
The 'Jacks scored a run in the bottom of the fourth when Carrie Woydziak singled to start the inning and was moved to second on a sacrifice from Ragen Rutherford. Chelsea Lundberg then singled to drive in Woydziak and give the 'Jacks a 1-0 lead.
Autry could not hold the lead in the top of the fifth as she retired the first two batters she faced in the inning and had a 2-2 count on Wagner before she hit a deep shot to left field to tie the score, 1-1.
Nicholls State came right back in the sixth inning with another leadoff single that was followed by a sacrifice attempt on which no one was covering first base. That put runners at first and second with no outs. Catcher Sarah Eads then laid down a bunt fielded by first basemen Chelsea Lundberg. She attempted to get the runner at third, but she beat the throw. That loaded the bases for the Colonels. Stephanie Sasser then hit a shallow flyball to center that scored a run to put Nicholls State up, 2-1. Brandi Hahn followed with a single to center field which went under the glove of center fielder Carrie Woydziak to score both runners and allowed Hahn to advance to third base. Coleman then singled to score Hahn and give Nicholls State a 5-1 lead.
The 'Jacks answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth following a triple by Woydziak. She later scored on a fielder's choice from Ragen Rutherford when she beat the throw to the plate. Rutherford reached but was picked off first base as she rounded the bag and thought about going to second.
Autry (6-8) worked 5.1 innings giving up five runs on five hits while striking out six. Nicole Carter worked 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Woydziak led SFA at the plate, going 2-2 with two runs scored and a triple. Rutherford and Lundberg picked up the RBI for the 'Jacks.
