Ladyjacks Fall to Chattanooga SFA offensive struggles continue
DALLAS, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team was victimized by poor shooting and a lack of rebounding as it dropped its first game of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic Friday afternoon to Chattanooga, 63-42. The Ladyjacks are now 1-3 (.250) overall.
It was a back-and-forth affair early on as the two teams changed leads three times with six ties, but the Ladyjacks inability to hit the three-point shot did them in. The Lady Mocs held SFA to only 1-of-13 (.077) shooting from outside the arc and dominated the boards outrebounding SFA, 48-23.
The score was tied at 14 with 11 minutes and 10 seconds remaining in the first-half but the Lady Mocs went on an 11-point run to close out the first half. Chattanooga held a 13-point advantage at the intermission, 33-20, and never allowed the Ladyjacks back in the contest.
SFA was led by senior Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) who scored 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting. She also added four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a losing effort.
"We are not attacking on the court," said SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley. You can see it, we are not attacking. We don't have anybody who will step up and take over leadership of this team. We have a lot of players who can create their own shot but we are doing too much one-on-one instead of working within the offense."
The Ladyjacks will close out the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic Saturday against the loser of the SMU/Western Illinois game. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., from the Moody Coliseum.
