The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks fell to 2-4 on the season Friday night in Santa Barbara as they dropped a 75-55 decision to UC Santa Barbara, in the Thunderdome. The Ladyjacks stayed with UCSB through the midpoint of the first half, but after tying the score at 16-16, SFA endured a four minute stretch during which they could not score.
UCSB used that dry spell and some timely shooting to put SFA away. The Ladyjacks entered the locker room at half-time trailing by more than 20 points, but proved resilient in the second half and fought hard, but could not overcome the first half deficit.
F Chaquita Dilworth led SFA with 16 points on the night as SFA shot only 31% from the field (20-63), and the team was only 5 of 23 from beyond the three point stripe. Meanwhile, UCSB connected on 48% of their field goal attempts (29-60), and were 5-15 (.333) from beyond the stripe.
The Gauchos also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Ladyjacks by a 51-33 margin. The Ladyjack defense did force 21 UCSB turnovers on the night, while committing only 16 themselves.
After six straight on the road to open the season, SFA returns home the William R. Johnson Coliseum Sunday, December 16, when they play host to Arizona at 1:30 p.m.
