She served as a graduate assistant during the 2021-22 season for the Mavericks, before being promoted to Director of Player Development in the Summer of 2022. As a graduate assistant her responsibilities included assisting in scouting, overseeing video and team managers, social media and on-campus recruiting, and recruiting mailouts.
During the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant, Hernandez played a key role in helping lead the Mavericks to a 20-8 record, winning the Sun Belt Tournament championship, and coming up just short of an upset of No. 3 seed Iowa State in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
Before becoming a member of the Mavericks coaching staff, Hernandez was a key player on the women’s basketball team. She transferred to UTA from Collin College and became a key piece in the Mavericks lineup. In three years of playing, she started in 68 games for the Mavericks.
As a freshman for the Mavericks, she scored in double-figures on 16 occasions which included a 22-point performance vs. Ranger (1/20/18) while also recording a steal in 24 games that year. As a sophomore, Hernandez averaged a healthy 12.6 points/game while scoring in double figures on 19 occasions which was highlighted by a 23-point performance against Grayson (2/18/19), while recording 5+ assists 10 times during that season, which included a pair of games where she recorded 10 assists. During her senior year, Hernandez scored double-digit points on six occasions in just 12 games started while knocking down a triple in nine games and tallied 2+ steals in seven of twelve games played.
Hernandez was selected to be a participant in the 2021 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “So You Want To Be a Coach” program, in which Hernandez participated in a one-day online workshop where she learned about recruiting skills, skill development, and the administrative side of coaching. Hernandez was the lone Sun Belt Conference student-athlete chosen and was only one of 18 members chosen from a Division I school.
Hernandez is the daughter of Ralph and Kristal Hernandez and has two brothers (Alaron and RJ). Jordynn Hernandez earned her bachelor’s degree from UTA in Kinesiology (2021). During her high school career, Hernandez was a First Team All-District 6A selection, named Team MVP, and led the district in assists as a senior.
