Softball Falls to UTA in Game One

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- UT Arlington defeated Stephen F. Austin, 6-3 in Sunday night's game. UTA improves to 15-18 (5-5 WAC) while SFA falls to 18-17 (6-4 WAC)
Brooke Gainous started in the circle for the 'Jacks in game one of the series against the Mavs. The first score of the game came in the bottom of the second inning after Gaby Garcia hit a double and the Mavs walked the bases loaded for Mallory Webb. Webb slapped a single to first base which allowed Garcia to score. UTA took the lead in the top of the third after they scored three runs, and tacked on another one in the fifth inning. Mackenzie Bennett stepped up to the plate with runners on the corners and hit a single to right center which scored Webb from third, 4-2. Garcia then singled to the shortstop which scored Emily Berryhill, 4-3. The Mavs tacked on two more in the top of the seventh to pull away with the 6-3 victory.
Webb and Garcia each recorded two hits and both recorded an RBI along with Bennett. Berryhill, Bennett, Garcia, and Webb each recorded a stolen base. Gainous recorded the loss after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs (one earned), and struck out two batters. Sophie Hannabas came on in relief and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing one hit, two runs (zero earned), and struck out two batters.
The 'Jacks will be back in action Monday, April 10th for a doubleheader to finish the series against the Mavs. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
