SFA Tops Tarleton 10-5 in Series Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin rolled past Tarleton State 10-5 in game one of a three-game series from Jaycees Field.
SFA improved to 6-18 overall and 2-8 in WAC play, while Tarleton fell to 9-15 and 5-5 in league action.
The Lumberjacks received a standout performance on the mound from Joe Todd. The senior tossed six strong innings and scattered seven hits, allowed three runs and one walk and fanned six batters.
Jake Zarrello keyed a five-run second inning with a two-run homerun to right field. Dillon Eatman showcased the long ball in the fourth inning with a two-run homerun to left-center field.
Zarrello finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Eatman went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Kyle Cullen, Cameron Crawford, Peyton Parker, and PJ Villareal each collected a hit.
As a team, the Lumberjacks pounded out seven hits and drew six walks.
SFA and Tarleton meet for game two of the series Saturday at 2 p.m.
