SFA downs UTA 5-3 in Home Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin opened its 2022 home slate with a 5-3 win over Texas-Arlington Sunday afternoon at Jaycees Field.
Leadoff hitter Kyle Cullen put the Lumberjacks on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single up the middle.
After UTA tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth, SFA countered when PJ Villareal singled to center field to score a run. In its part of the sixth, Cal Martin homered to left field to extend the lead to 3-1.
Cameron Crawford and Dillon Eatman each added an RBI in the seventh inning.
Joe Ricter earned the win on the bump. The Lincoln, Nebraska product tossed six innings, scattered three hits, allowed one run and no walks and fanned one batter. Ricter induced 10 ground outs.
As a team, SFA produced 12 hits.
The 'Jacks return to the diamond Tuesday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
