Southland All-Conference Teams release
FRISCO, Texas -- On the heels of a dominant regular season and run through Southland Conference play culminating in a regular season title, SFA softball head coach Nicole Dickson was named the Coach of the Year by the league office in a release on Monday afternoon. The accolade is the first for Dickson in her time at SFA, and comes as part of a broader release of the league's superlatives and all-conference teams.
Dickson led SFA to a 34-10 record in the 2021 regular season and a dominant 24-2 run through Southland Conference play, earning SFA its second regular season title in its final year in the Southland Conference. The 'Jacks led the league in batting average (.324), hits (239), runs (179), home runs (31), RBI (166), total bases (38), on-base percentage (.412) on the offensive end, while also leading the SLC in pitching shutouts (12), opponent batting average (.207), strikeouts (182) and innings pitched (183.0).
Under the guidance of Dickson and her staff, a total of seven Ladyjacks were named to the All-Conference Teams, while Kassidy Wilbur and Shaylon Govan were named Pitcher of the Year and Hitter of the Year, respectively. Wilbur was also named Player of tge Year for the league, benefiting directly from the tutelage of Dickson to put forth a season for the record books.
The 2021 season has already been a special one for Dickson and her squad, as they have set three new program records as a team. SFA's 24 league wins is a program best, as is the two losses suffered during the conference schedule. Dickson and the 'Jacks also set a Division I program record for consecutive wins with 18, beginning in mid march and ending in late April.
Dickson is the second SFA head coach to win the award (Gay McNutt-2008), marking the second time an SFA head coach has been named Coach of the Year.
