
SFA Adds Another "W" to the Win Column with a 69-39 Victory Over Lamar

The Ladyjacks played in the first game of the men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday, coming away with a 69-39 win for SFA's sixth Southland Conference victory of the year. SFA improves to 14-2, 6-0 in SLC.
How It Happened
SFA jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Cardinals from Aiyana Johnson and Stephanie Visscher layup's, plus a three from Banfield. The Cardinals were held to two points in the first eight minutes of the game, while the Ladyjacks cruised through the 1st quarter leading 18-4. Marissa Banfield hit two 3-pointers in the 1st quarter, with at least six different players with two points apiece.
The 2nd quarter's tone was set by Avery Brittingham's six points, including a layup (and one) to give her team a 24-10 lead at 6:45. The Ladyjacks had a 20-point lead with one minute to play in the first half, but the Cardinals cut the lead to 15 right before the half. SFA didn't skip a beat in the second half though, gaining a 29-point lead set up by a 11-0 run at 6:48 topped off by a Zya Nugent basket and made free throw. The Ladyjacks generated offense through the 4th quarter, grabbing a 69-39 win over the Lamar Cardinals.
Pilgrim's Player of the Game, Avery Brittingham
Brittingham came off the bench and provided instant energy for SFA compiling 16 points (7-9 FG), 14 rebounds for a double-double, adding three assists.
Stephanie Visscher followed with 13 points (8-8 FT), three rebounds and three assists. The Ladyjacks outscored the Cardinals 23-1 in second chance points, and scored 38 points in the paint. SFA shot 41.9 percent from the field, compared to Lamar's 25.9 percent.
Up Next: SFA will be back on the road on Wednesday for a SLC matchup at Abilene Christian at 5:30 p.m.
