NATCHITOCHES, La. – Heavy thunderstorms and rain descended upon Lady Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Wednesday evening, halting the SFA softball team's 2019 Southland Conference Tournament game with sixth-seeded Northwestern State in the bottom of the third inning.
The Ladyjacks (34-20) trailed 1-0 with two outs and nobody on base in the home portion of the third inning when the tournament's opening-round back draw contest was suspended. Senior first baseman Margarita Corona was due up at the plate. With more heavy rain forecasted later tonight and soaked field conditions, tournament officials made the decision to resume play Thursday morning at 2:30 p.m.
Despite SFA loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the opening inning, the Ladyjacks were unable to bring anybody across home plate before Lady Demon left fielder Kaitlyn St. Clair led off the second inning with a solo home run over the left field wall.
