Softball’s Home Opener with Texas Southern Postponed Due to Weather

Ladyjacks will head to Houston for the University of Houston’s Red & White Showcase this weekend after midweek tilt with Texas Southern postponed due wet field conditions and rain
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin softball team will have to wait to play its home opener as Wednesday's home opener against Texas Southern has been postponed due to wet field conditions after the recent heavy rains in Nacogdoches. Continual rain over the past week, rain showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and forecasted additional rain and thunderstorms Wednesday led both coaches to agree upon postponing the game.
The 2018 home opener for the Ladyjacks (7-6) was scheduled to take place Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. but will now be made up at a later date this season. At this time, no makeup date had been selected for the matchup between SFA and the Lady Tigers (4-3).
The Ladyjacks will now turn their attention to this weekend for SFA's five-game stretch in Houston at the University of Houston's Red & White Showcase. Mississippi Valley State out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, tournament host Houston and the SWAC's Southern University await the Ladyjacks at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
SFA is scheduled to battle Mississippi Valley State at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Mar 2, followed by a primetime matchup with Houston at 6 p.m. On Saturday, March 3, the Ladyjacks will take on Mississippi Valley State once again at 12:30 p.m. and then Houston for a second time at 5:30 p.m. SFA will wrap up play at the Houston Red & White Showcase Sunday, March 4 with a 10 a.m. first pitch against Southern.
Following Wednesday's postponement of the Ladyjacks' tilt with Texas Southern, SFA will now host its home opener next Wednesday, March 7 when Prairie View A&M visits the friendly confines of the SFA Softball Field for a 4 p.m. start.
