NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin softball team will host Texas Southern on Wednesday as their home opener for the 2017 season out at the SFA Softball Complex. The game will just be a single game starting at 3:00 p.m. before hitting the road again for the last preseason tournament.
The last time TSU and SFA squared off was last year in a five inning rout that the Ladyjacks handily won, 13-2. Production came from all over the lineup as first baseman Brittany Lewis went a perfrect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs, three doubles, and six RBI. Autumn Holloway also hit safely each time, going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Courtney Chambers also added on her own points as she went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Last Time Out: Last weekend saw the Ladyjacks go 2-2 in the South Alabama Invitational. The two victories came from a 3-0 shutout over Middle Tennessee State and a 10-1, five innings, verdict over Tennessee Tech.
Junior Amber Landry had another big weekend, leading the Ladyjacks’ at the plate with 15 total bases from 15 at-bats, a perfect 1.000 slugging percentage. She tallied five runs and eight hits from the weekend, including a two RBI homer in the first game against Tennessee Tech. Her other hits were two doubles, a triple, and four RBI.
Junior Taylor Fraccastoro batted the team-high .750 average this past weekend from three hits in four appearances. Junior Autumn Holloway had two RBIs from three hits and 13 at-bats. Freshman Brittany Crawford had a tremendous weekend tallying the other two SFA RBIs and two runs.
Freshman Jordan Llinas, the Southland Pitcher of the Week, pitched both of SFA’s winning games last weekend. She totaled nine pitched innings and faced 39 at-bats. She had nine hits against her, but none of them turned into earned runs.
Scouting Texas Southern: Texas Southern has only played in five games so far this season and is 3-2 on their record. The Lady Tigers are coming from a 6-3 loss to Houston Baptist. Their seventh inning rally came up short against the Huskies. Dominque Tello delivered a blast over the center field fence with two runners on to save the shutout, but it would not be enough to catch the Huskies six run lead.
Next Up: The Ladyjacks will be on the road again this weekend for the last big preseason tournament. The Missouri Tournament will pit SFA against some of its toughest competition of the year facing No. 24 Missouri and No.4 Oregon. The Missouri Tournament will be a three day tournament of the span of March 3 to March 5. SFA will square off against Butler first on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
