NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team built on its rich winning tradition during the 2015 season, claiming an unprecedented fifth consecutive Southland Conference regular season championship to highlight a long list of team and individual accomplishments.
With the 2015 team title, the Ladyjacks now have 10 regular season trophies on display, which is double the amount of the next closest conference foe. SFA also became the only team in the nation to win a league title outright in each of the last five years.
Heading into the back stretch of their 2015 campaign, the Ladyjacks built the longest conference unbeaten streak in the nation to 32 games to showcase their complete dominance in the league. The squad ended the year with a 9-8-2 overall record and an 8-1-2 mark in SLC play.
Along with the team success, numerous individuals were recognized for their impressive achievements on and off the field following the year. Amanda Doyle was named the SLC Player of the Year, Brooke Dunnigan was selected as the SLC Student-Athlete of the Year and Wally Crittenden was tabbed SLC Coach of the Year for the third straight season to highlight the list.
In late January, December graduate Rachel Owens signed a professional contract to continue her playing career in Iceland, becoming the fourth player in SFA history to turn pro.
The Ladyjacks will go for a sixth straight championship when the 2016 season kicks off in August.
