Brandie Musser shines with four saves in loss; setting career-high

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stephen F. Austin State University (1-1-0) was defeated 3-0 by Oklahoma State University (1-0-1) on Sunday at Neal Patterson Stadium. SFA managed four shots on goal but could not find the back of the net.

The first half commenced with SFA showing defensive resilience against Oklahoma State's aggressive offense. Brandie Musser made a crucial save at 13:13, thwarting a shot by Sonora De Fini. The Ladyjacks then shifted to offense with attempts from Kamrynn Davis and Sawyer Kohutek, but Logan Marks kept Oklahoma State's net secure. Despite SFA's efforts, Oklahoma State broke through at 32:37 with a goal by Keaton Mitchell, assisted by Laudan Wilson. The lone Oklahoma State goal sent the Cowgirls into halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Jacks

SFA was unable to find the back of the net in the second half, despite early second-half efforts from Alexa Alvarez and Elsie Zachry, whose shots were saved by Oklahoma State's Logan Marks. Oklahoma State quickly capitalized on its opportunities with its counter-attack, with Keaton Mitchell notching a goal from an Emmy Hedden assist at 54:44, and not long after, Sonora De Fini converting a penalty kick at 60:51. Musser made crucial saves late in the match to keep SFA in contention, but the Ladyjacks were unable to overcome the deficit, with the match concluding with Oklahoma State leading 3-0.

Musser recorded four saves during her 90 minutes in goal, facing 19 shots. Sydney Williams managed to register a shot on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Zachry also added a shot on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposing defense. Thurmond rounded out the attacking attempts with a shot on target, striving to break through the Cowgirls' defense.

Head Coach Ashley Whittemore reflected on tonight's result, saying, "Going out and playing really good opponents helps us see where the cracks are and what we need to work on, but also gives us good competition and helps us see where we can shine."

Goalkeeper Brandie Musser was named the Woman of the Match, recording four saves and allowing three goals in 90 minutes. Whittemore had this to share about Musser, the young keeper putting up a career high: "I think this is a huge confidence builder for Brandie. She came out, she knew what she was doing, she was decisive, and her communication was fantastic. At the end of the day, she held on and made big saves that she needed to hang on to, so I'm really proud of her, and I think she is going to continue to go up from here."

SFA now falls to 0-6 against Oklahoma State in the series, with an 0-4 record in Stillwater.

Looking ahead, the Ladyjacks will face Tulsa on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. CT. The match will take place at the Chopping Block for the eighth all-time battle with the Golden Hurricane.
