CONWAY, Arkansas - The Stephen F. Austin softball team let two early leads slip away on Sunday afternoon at Farris Field, falling to Central Arkansas 13-6 in the first game of a Southland Conference doubleheader before dropping the nightcap 5-3.
The Ladyjacks fall to 7-15 overall on the year and 1-5 in SLC play while the Sugar Bears are now 18-6 this season with a 6-0 SLC mark.
Sophomore Brittany Lewis had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double and seven RBI combined between the two games. Both of her dingers came in the first contest.
UCA scored a run in each of the first two innings in game one before SFA took the lead 3-2 in the third with the first of Lewis' homers. Taylor LeFlore singled and Taylor Fraccastoro walked to put three on for Lewis, who cleared the bases on a three-run shot to right center with two outs.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Sugar Bears stormed back with 10 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the third inning. During the inning, UCA smacked two home runs, including a grand slam by Sam Forrest.
The 12-3 UCA advantage after three proved to be more than enough although SFA got three runs back in the fifth inning. Fraccastoro and Lewis hit back-to-back home runs with two away in the frame. Fraccastoro's bomb was of the two-run variety while Lewis' second of the day was a solo blast.
Despite cutting the lead to 12-6, the Sugar Bears tacked on another run in the sixth and held on for the 13-6 final.
In game two, Lewis drove in all three Ladyjack runs and accounted for two of the team's four total hits. The designated player brought Fraccastoro and LeFlore home on a double to right center in the first inning to give SFA the early 2-0 cushion.
The Sugar Bears scored four runs in the third and another in the fourth to go up 5-2.
Lewis capped the day's scoring with an RBI groundout in the sixth inning. LeFlore walked and later scored on the play to make it 5-3.
The Ladyjacks will next take on UTSA on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m. in San Antonio.
