CoSIDA's Capital One Academic All-District Announcement
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin senior shortstop Elizabeth Arana was recognized for her hard work on the diamond and in the classroom again on Thursday being named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team.
Arana was voted to the first team for District 7 by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America for the second straight year. The senior currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA majoring in health science with an emphasis in community health. This season she leads the Ladyjacks with 36 runs scored and is 12-for-13 on stolen base attempts.
She is recognized as one of the top softball student-athletes in District 7, which consists of universities in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
A total of sseven softball players from the Southland Conference to be named to a Capital One Academic All-District Team. Alyssa Coggins (Sam Houston State), Ashley Nolan (Abilene Christian) and Taylor Johnson (Incarnate Word) joined Arana in District 7. McNeese State’s Katie Roux, Alanna DiVittorio and Jamie Allred were named to the first team in District 6.
By being named to the first team academic all-district team, Arana is eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team. Last season Arana was named a third team Academic All-America member. Members of CoSIDA will vote on Academic All-America teams next week.
