NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Chelsea Raymond delivered a game-winning penalty kick in the 43rd minute and that proved to be enough to defeat former Southland Conference foe Texas State, 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the home opener at the SFA Soccer Field.
SFA (2-0) stayed undefeated in the young season with their second straight shutout, limiting the Bobcats (1-1) to just six shots and two on goal. The goalkeeper combination of Morgan Glick (1-0) and Lacey Lee (1-0) had to make just two saves in the second half.
The victory was the Ladyjacks 23rd straight win at home dating back to the 2009 season.
The lone goal came right before halftime when Amanda Doyle received pass in prime scoring position in the box and was shoved in the process creating a penalty kick. SFA head coach Wally Crittenden elected to let Raymond take the shot and the junior delivered beating Texas St. keeper Natalie Gardini to her right for her 32nd career goal.
Raymond is now just six goals shy of tying the school's all-time mark held by Amanda Alders (38).
SFA will now have four days off before they get back on to the pitch at Houston on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. They will then return home on Sunday to welcome in Arizona St. for an early 11:30 a.m. start time.
