NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After taking two out of three games against the Lamar Lady Cardinals last weekend, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team will play their final non-conference road game of the season on Wednesday when they travel to Ruston, La. to take on the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters at 6 p.m.
SFA (8-18, 2-4) defeated La. Tech (12-12), 1-0 back on March 6 in SFA's home opener thanks in main part to a splendid pitching performance from senior Angela White. The Sherman, Texas native earned her first victory of the season that afternoon by throwing a five-hit complete game shutout while striking out eight and walking only one batter.
SFA is batting .214 as a team this season led by Shalie Day (.328, 7 RBI), Elizabeth Arana (.319, 12 runs, 13 RBI), and Nicole Wooten (.298, 7 runs). The Ladyjacks utilize two pitchers in Carlie Thomas (5-8, 3.20 ERA) and White (3-10, 7.00 ERA).
The Lady Techsters have not played in a week and are coming off a pair of losses at Louisiana-Lafayette on March 13. Now 24 games into their season, Wednesday's game versus SFA will amazingly be La. Tech's first home game of the season.
La. Tech ranks among the nation's best in a number of offensive categories, including ranking 27th in the country in team batting average (.319) and No. 1 nationally stolen bases per game (2.88).
Tech is led at the plate by a host of players, including Kristen Miles (.403, 18 runs, 11-12 SB), Erin Kipp (.388, 14 RBI, 9-10 SB), Meghan Knowles (.365, 2 HR, 10 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.345, 11 runs, 2 HR, 9 RBI), Janna Frandrup (.343, 11 RBI), Anna Cross (.322, 15 runs, 17 RBI, 15-15 SB), and Amanda Krueger (.310, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 10-11 SB).
In the circle, Montgomery continues to rely on a pitcher-by-committee approach led by Michelle Jones (8-7, 2.66 ERA), Erin Kipp (3-2, 4.85), Cross (0-0, 5.00) and Frandrup (0-2, 6.11).
