NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin softball team will try for its first conference series win of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Huntsville for a doubleheader against Sam Houston State. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Ladyjacks (8-18, 1-3) are coming off a 1-1 series split against Nicholls State this past weekend. SFA received tremendous pitching performances from each of Carlie Thomas and Angela White. The two combined to pitch 14 innings while allowing no earned runs and just two walks.
Despite solid pitching of late, SFA is still waiting for their offense to catch fire. This past weekend the Ladyjacks were shutout for the sixth time this season and saw their team batting average dip below .200.
On the flip side Sam Houston State (8-15, 2-2) was swept last weekend in a two-game series against Central Arkansas, 6-0 and 5-1. The Bearkats are second in the conference in homeruns (23), only one behind UCA. Sarah Allison (6 HR), Kim Damian (5 HR) and Shelbi Tucker (4 HR) are the top SHSU sluggers.
Following Tuesday's double-dip, the Ladyjacks will return home this weekend for a Friday-Saturday series against UT-Arlington.
