
Ladyjacks Travel To Waco For Texas Shootout

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team returns to tournament action this weekend when they take part in the Fairfield Inn North - Texas Shootout in Waco, Texas.
The Ladyjacks (3-7) will open the tournament Friday against UTEP (4-5) at 12:30 p.m., followed by an evening game against host No. 9 Baylor (8-1) at 5:30 p.m.
Along with Baylor and UTEP, the Texas Shootout will feature some of the best teams from the Lone Star State, including No. 8 Texas (8-0), Texas Tech (7-4), North Texas (4-3) and Texas State (4-6). On Saturday the Ladyjacks will take on North Texas at 1 p.m. followed by a game against the Red Raiders at 3:30 p.m.
SFA will play a bracket game on Sunday with the opponent and time to be determined.
The Ladyjacks are coming off a 2-3 weekend at the Troy Cox Classic where the defeated both Colorado State and Weber State, sandwiched around losses to Nebraska, New Mexico State and Weber State. After dropping three straight, the Ladyjacks came through with a 6-4 victory over Weber State on the final day ouf the tournament.
Carlie Thomas (2-4) worked five innings in relief to earn the victory, striking out a season-high seven batters while allowing three earned runs on five hits.
SFA has been led offensively this season by the trio of Cadie Weaver, Elizabeth Arana and Linda Linares. Weaver leads the Ladyjacks with a .458 batting average and 11 hits, along with a team-best nine RBI's. Arana meanwhile has a team-leading two home runs and a .409 average. Linares, a freshman infielder from MacArthur, is coming off a big tournament in which she hit her first career home run and is now third on the team with six RBI's.
