TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Ole Miss Rebels proved to be too much for the Ladyjacks on Saturday, defeating SFA twice by scores of 9-0 (5 innings) and 11-3 (5 innings) on the second day of the Seminole Classic.
SFA (1-3) will be back in action tomorrow to face Tennessee Tech in the tournament's consolation game at 8 a.m. (CT).
Game 2: Ole Miss 11, SFA 3 (5 innings)
The Ladyjacks jumped out in front in the first inning on an RBI single from Elizabeth Arana, making the score 1-0 SFA. The lead would not last long though as Ole Miss would put together a 3-run inning of their own in the bottom of the first.
After two quick outs, Angela White allowed a single to Londen Ladner followed by a walk issued to RT Cantillo. Allison Brown then delivered a big blow with a three-run homer down the left field line.
SFA would have an answer of their own in the third inning, when Bethany Brown tied the game with a 2-run homer, SFA's first of the season.
The Ladyjacks would never see the lead again though, allowing a combined eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings. White (1-1) took the loss, allowing nine earned runs in 3.1 innings on five hits and seven walks.
Game 1: Ole Miss 9, SFA 0 (5 innings)
MISS 9, SFA 0 (5 innings)
The Ladyjacks fell behind early and we're never able to get the offense going in a 9-0 five-innings loss to Ole Miss Saturday morning in the Seminole Classic.
Rebels starting pitcher Kendall Browning threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout while Ole Miss piled up 12 hits against both of SFA's pitchers, Carlie Thomas (0-2) and Kaitlyn Mixon. Thomas started and allowed eight hits and five runs, all earned, in four innings of work while walking three.
Mixon pitched one inning of relief and surrendered four runs (2 earned) on four hits in her Ladyjack debut.
After scoring a single run in the first inning, Ole Miss put up three more runs in the second inning on six hits and an error.
The Rebels tacked on another run in fourth inning and then put the game away with four more runs in the fifth inning.
Ole Miss second baseman Corrine Doornberg was a thorn in the Ladyjacks' side all game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored while also stealing base. Ladner, Erinn Jayjohn and Cali Overback all had two hits apiece for the Rebels as well.
Brown (1-for-2) and Charlotte Singleton (1-for-2) had the lone hits for SFA.
The SFA defense struggled, committing five errors by five different players.
