FOR STARTERS: The Ladyjacks just wrapped up their non-conference portion of the schedule by splitting two games on the road against Conference USA opponents at SMU (W 66-60) and Tulsa (L 72-53). SFA's 10-3 record is their best start to a season since the 2000-01 Southland Conference Championship team also started 10-3.
LAST TIME OUT: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were unable to overcome 23 turnovers and 32 percent shooting in a 72-53 loss at Tulsa Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference game of the season. SFA (10-3) was led in scoring by sophomore forward Annette Davis, who scored 12 points, followed by nine points apiece from Tammara Marion and Ashley Bettis.
THE LADY LIONS: The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team closed out its 2011-12 non-conference schedule on a high note with a dominant 81-30 win over UNO Wednesday night. The Lady Lions (5-8) snapped a four-game losing streak, forcing UNO (0-15) into 28 turnovers.
THE SERIES: SFA has dominated SELA, leading the all-time series 25-2 and have won the last seven meetings dating back to 2005-06. The Ladyjacks defeated the Lady Lions 66-55 last season in Nacogdoches.
COVERAGE: Saturday's game will be available on the radio on Q107.7 FM and via live stats on www.lionsports.net.

NEWS AND NOTES
MARION DIALING LONG DISTANCE: Senior guard Tammara Marion, who became SFA's all-time leader in made three-pointers earlier this year, is now 16th in the country in three-point field goals per game (2.9) and 23rd in three-point percentage (42.2). Marion actually has a higher FG percentage from long distance than her regular FG percentage (33.5). As a team SFA ranks 37th in the nation in three-point field goals per game (6.8).
HALFWAY THERE: Out of their 13 games played, the Ladyjacks have taken a lead going into halftime on eight occasions and have won all eight of those contests. SFA has outscored their opponents 401-361 in the first 20 minutes of games, limiting opponents to just 27.8 points in the first half. Tammara Marion, who is averaging 14 ppg, is averaging 9.2 points in the first half.
PARTY IN THE CUSA: With their back-to-back wins over Rice (68-64) and SMU (66-60), and their win over Southern Miss earlier this season, the Ladyjacks have defeated three Conference USA squads in a season for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign when SFA knocked off Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa.
BETTIS COMING ON STRONG: After suffering an ankle injury and missing two games earlier this season, freshman guard Ashley Bettis has begun to turn her game up a notch and has been so impressive that she earned her first career start at Tulsa. The Houston, Texas native has averaged 10 ppg in her last five games and is shooting a spectacular 53 percent from the field. A Channelview HS graduate, Bettis recorded career highs in points (13), FG made (5), FTS made (3) and rebounds (5) in the Ladyjacks big road win at SMU.
NEEDING TO BUCK A TREND: Although SFA outscored Tulsa 10-6 in the first five minutes of the second half last time out, the first five minutes of the second half have been a major bugaboo for the Ladyjacks the past few weeks. Over the past four games SFA has been outscored 45-19 in the first five minutes of the second half, which includes runs of 13-3 (Arkansas St.), 14-2 (Rice) and 12-4 (SMU).
