NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin softball team will play its final road games of the year Wednesday when the Ladyjacks take on North Texas in a doubleheader. First pitch against the Mean Green is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Lovelace Stadium.
SFA comes into the set with a 12-32 season mark, having gone 4-4 over its last eight games. The Ladyjacks are coming off a 1-2 weekend at Southeastern Louisiana, splitting a pair of losses with a 7-0 win.
Freshman pitcher Carlie Thomas went the distance for the shutout victory, the second in her last three starts. She also threw a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at No. 3 Texas on April 13.
Classmate Cadie Weaver has returned from a six-game injury absence to bat a blistering .467 over her last five contests. She had two hits in each of SFA's three games at Southeastern Louisiana -- including two doubles and a home run -- and drove in four runs in the series.
North Texas brings a 20-28 record to the week. The Mean Green is 15-11 at Lovelace Stadium, but has played 12 of its last 15 games on the road. UNT is coming off a four-game road trip that included games against Texas State and South Alabama. The Mean Green went 1-3 on the trip.
SFA last played UNT in 2010. The Ladyjacks squared off with the Mean Green in a doubleheader that marked the first games at SFA Field. UNT took a 7-0 verdict in the opener, but the Ladyjacks came back with a 5-2 win in Game 2 on a walk-off home run by Briana Bishop.
