KATY, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks' 2010-11 season came to end Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the State Farm Southland Conference Championships. The sixth-seeded Ladyjacks flirted with the upset bid but dropped a six-point decision to Central Arkansas, 64-58, in the Merrell Center.
SFA did a great job of making 2011 SLC Player of the Year Megan Herbert a non-factor in the opening half. Behind junior Tammara Marion's team-high 21 points, the Ladyjacks built a nine-point lead midway through the opening half, while holding Herbert scoreless. The Sugar Bears battled back into the contest and had two opportunities to take a lead but were denied and SFA took a three-point advantage into the locker room, 29-26.
Trailing by one with 15:08 remaining, UCA went on a 10-2 run to take a seven point lead. SFA answered to tie the game at 50 before the Sugar Bears stretched the lead back to six points. It would prove to be the difference in the game as the Sugar Bears never trailed in the final 7:19 of the game.
UCA's Desiree Rogers led all scorers with 24 points and 15 rebounds, and she was able to keep the third-seeded Sugar Bears in the game until Herbert could heat up in the second half. Herbert scored all 13 of her points, and pulled down nine of her 13 rebounds in the second half.
Senior Decreasha Goodner closed out her SFA career with a nine-point, seven rebound outing. Classmate Jordan Ford added six point and seven rebounds, while Toni Davis chipped in five and pulled down four.
The Ladyjacks end the season with a 12-18 overall record.
