UP NEXT: The Ladyjacks begin Southland Conference play Saturday, Jan. 7 when they travel to Hammond, Lousiana to take on Southeastern Louisiana. SFA will then host Central Arkansas Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the conference home opener.
DAVIS FINDING A GROOVE: Sophomore forward Annette Davis has come on strong in her last three games and is proving to be the top scoring option of the Ladyjacks bench. The Houston, Texas native and Kansas University transfer set new career-highs in points (17), field goals (6) and rebounds (8) in SFA’s 68-64 win over Rice. That performance came on the heels of a 15-point outing against Arkansas State the previous game. Over her past three games Davis averaging 14.3 ppg and6 rpg.
DOING IT WITH D: Although SFA is shooting just 35 percent and averaging 62 points per game (7th in SLC), the Ladyjacks are more than making up for their struggles on the defensive side of the ball. SFA ranks third in the league in scoring defense (55.8 ppg) and is first overall in rebounding margin (+3.4). The Ladyjacks have yet to lose (7-0) when allowing 59 points or less and are fourth in the conference in blocks per game (3.8).
RAINING THREE’S: With five more made three-pointers against Rice, the Ladyjacks now sit 27th in the nation in trifecta’s made per contest (7.1). Overall SFA has made 77-of-237 long balls attempted and is second in the Southland Conference in makes per game. Senior Tammara Marion, who connected on a season-high six three-pointers at Southern Miss back in November, leads SFA with 31 made threes this year and is first in the conference in 3pt field goals made. Marion, who is SFA’s all-time leader in 3pt. made (204) and 3pt % (.381) is just 19 long distance attempts away from tying the school record (555) in attempts held by Kirby Killingsworth.
