
Ladyjacks Take on League-Leading Lamar

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team (11-8/6-2 SLC) will look to make it three in a row Saturday as they host league-leading Lamar in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lady Cardinals enter Saturday's contest with a 17-5 (.773) overall record, and a 7-1 (.875) conference mark. Lamar has won seven of their last eight games, but is coming off a 92-77 loss at Central Arkansas. The Ladyjacks are currently in a two-way tie for first in the SLC East Division with UCA.
Coaches Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 141-113 (.555) in her ninth season in Nacogdoches. She is 272-171 (.614) in her 15th season as a head coach. Lamar head coach Larry Tidwell is 56-29 (.659) in his third season with the Lady Cardinals.
SFA vs. the Lady Cardinals The Ladyjacks are 40-7 (.851) all-time against Lamar, but the Lady Cardinals have seen quite a bit of success recently. Lamar has won four consecutive meetings in the series, and five of the last six. Saturday's game will mark the first time the two teams have played in Nacogdoches since the 2006-07 season when the Lady Cardinals recorded an 81-71 win. The two schools have set a Southland Conference record by meeting in the opening round of the conference tournament each of the past four seasons, splitting the results.
Career Milestone Senior Whitney Cormier solidified her place in SFA Ladyjack basketball history Wednesday evening in Thibodaux, La. With her ninth point in the game Cormier became the 24th Ladyjack to score 1,000 points in a career. She currently has 1,007 total career points.
Career Highs Sophomore Tammara Marion notched a new career Wednesday against Nicholls. The Houston native scored 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting against the Colonels. She also pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
Return to Normal After watching her offense shoot less than 40 percent in its previous two games, head coach Lee Ann Riley watched the offense jump out to a quick start Wednesday in Thibodaux, La. The Ladyjacks shot nearly 50 percent in the opening half against the Colonels, and finished the game 27-of-65 (.415) from the floor.
A Beast on the Boards Junior Toni Davis has really made her presence known on the glass this season. She grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds against the Colonels, which marked the fifth time this season that she has recorded double-figure rebounds. She has pulled down at least seven rebounds in a game eight times this season.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Prather Coliseum.
