
Ladyjacks Cast Off Demons

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team recorded its second-straight Southland Conference victory by ousting Northwestern State, 64-57, Saturday evening at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The victory propels SFA to 9-14 on the season, and 6-5 in Southland Conference play.
SFA played two totally different games Saturday against Northwestern State, the first which saw the Ladyjacks shoot only 35 percent from the floor, and get outrebounded by three in the opening half. That team went into the locker room down five points at halftime, 26-21.
The team that came out in the second half dominated Northwestern State outscoring the Lady Demons by 12, and outrebounded the visitors by two. SFA also knocked down 14-of-29 (.483) shots in the second half to take control of the game. SFA finished the game shooting 23-for-55 (.416) from the floor.
The Lady Demons had increased their advantage to seven points with 14:55 remaining in the contest, when SFA made its run. Junior Natashia Green came off the bench to spark a 19-3 run over the next six minutes of the ball game. Green would finished the game nine points as SFA would go on to extend its lead by double digits.
Northwestern State cut the lead to five points late in the ball game but struggled from the free throw line down the stretch, missing 8-of-18 free throws. The Ladyjacks were clutch from the stripe in the final minutes connecting on 8-of-their-last-10 attempts.
Freshman Jordan Ford led SFA with 13 points, while classmates Antoinette Davis and Ebony Alexander each chipped in 10. Freshman Decreasha Goodner added eight points and pulled down five rebounds.
Northwestern State was led by Tena Matthews who scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Ashli Barnum added 16 in a losing effort.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they travel to Huntsville, Texas to take on Sam Houston State. The game against the Bearkats is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
