The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team looks to return to the win column Saturday as they travel to Grambling, La., to take on the Grambling State Lady Tigers. The Ladyjacks are 4-3 (.571) on the season, but are coming off a home setback to No. 4 Texas A&M, the second top-10 team the Ladyjacks have faced this season. Grambling State (0-4) enters Saturday's contest looking for its first victory of the season. The Lady Tigers have dropped four straight to start the year, including three contests to Southland Conference opponents. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from the GSU Assembly Center.
Coaches: Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 120-94 (.561) in her eighth season in Nacogdoches. She is 251-152 (.623) in 13th seasons as a head coach. Grambling State head coach Donnita Drain is 0-4 in her first season with the Lady Tigers. She is 244-170 (.589) in her 14th season as a head coach.
SFA vs. the Lady Tigers: The Ladyjacks are 3-1 (.750) all-time against Grambling State. The Ladyjacks have won the last two meetings in the series, including an impressive 95-57 decision in the 2007-08 SFA home opener.
Purple, White and Green: Senior Natashia Green did what all coaches expect their seniors to do in big games, step up. Green led the Ladyjacks with 12 points against fourth-ranked Texas A&M. It is the second time this season that Green has scored in double figures. She has scored no fewer than six points in a game this season.
Turnover Trouble: The Ladyjacks continue to do a good job of forcing their opponents into turnovers (19.7) during the 2008-09 season, but SFA has been unable to make their opponents pay for their mistakes. The Ladyjacks are averaging only 13.7 points per game from their opponents turnovers.
Aggie Miscues: Despite the fact that the Ladyjack offense struggled at times against the nation's fourth-ranked team, the Ladyjack defense was able to cause Texas A&M some trouble hanging onto the ball. SFA forced the Aggies into 18 turnovers in the game. The Ladyjacks were only outrebounded by six by the taller Texas A&M squad.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, when they return to Nacogdoches to take on New Orleans. The game against the Lady Privateers is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
