The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to bounce back from a disappointing 56-45 setback against Tulane when it travels to El Paso, Texas, for the UTEP Thanksgiving Tournament. The four-team field will consist of tournament-host UTEP, Nevada and Cal State Fullerton. The Ladyjacks will face Navada at 4:30 (5:30 p.m. Nacogdoches time) p.m. Depending on the outcome of Friday's game the Ladyjacks will face either UTEP or Cal State Fullerton Saturday. The game times for Saturday's games will be 4:30 or 7 (5:30 or 8 p.m. Nacogdoches time) p.m. All games will be played at the Don Haskins Center.
The Ladyjacks will be facing Nevada for the first time in school when the two schools step on the court Friday.
If the Ladyjacks should face tournament-host UTEP in the second round of the UTEP Thanksgiving Tournament, it would mark the first time in school history that the schools have met on the hardwood.
The Ladyjacks are 1-0 all-time against Cal State Fullerton. The lone meeting between the schools came during the 1993-94 season when SFA recorded a 90-64 decision.
SFA recorded its 795th all-time victory with their 95-57 bashing of Grambling State. The Ladyjacks are now only five wins shy of No. 800. That victory would put SFA in some very elite company. Only five other NCAA Division I schools have recorded at least 800 wins. The list includes Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Texas and James Madison. There is one other school that is on pace to record it's 800th victory this season. Tennessee Tech currently has 789 all-time wins.
First-year guard Decreasha Goodner has jumped out to a quick start to the 2007-08 season. Goodner scored 21 points in the season opener at New Orleans, and followed that up with another 21-point outing against Grambling State. It marks the first time that a Ladyjack has recorded at least 20 points in a game since former Ladyjack Charity Egenti accomplished it last season against Lamar (28 points, Jan. 11th) and McNeese State (27 points, Jan. 13th). Goodner is curretly 12-of-27 (.444) from the floor, and 24-of-33 (.727) from the free throw line.
Freshman Jordan Ford recorded the first double-double of her career against Grambling State. She finished with a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds. It marked the first double-double by a Ladyjack player this season. The Ladyjacks recorded 21 double-doubles a year ago.
The Ladyjacks did a great job of spreading around the wealth Tuesday night against Grambling State. Six players scored in double figures, led by freshmen Jordan Ford (25 points) and Decreasha Goodner (21 points). It marked the first time that SFA has had six players score in double figures in the same game since the 1999-2000 season. That year the Ladyjacks had six players record double-figure points in a 79-58 victory at Northwestern State.
The Ladyjacks poured in 95 points in the victory over Grambling State. It marked the highest output by a Ladyjack squad since SFA scored 96 at Sam Houston State last season.
The Ladyjacks have made their way to the free throw line with some regularity to start the 2007-08 season. SFA has equaled or tied its season-high in free throw attempts from a year ago in each of its first two games, and is averaging 31 free throw attempts during its first three games. The 40 attempts are the most by a Ladyjack squad since SFA attempted 50 in an 80-47 victory over McNeese State during the 2000-01 season.
