It has been one hectic week in Ladyjack land. The excitement began on Tuesday night with our match against Sam Houston. Every time we go to their place, they always put up a big fight. Last year with the support of their home crowd, they nearly beat us so this year we brought our home crowd to their place. A bus brought our "Ladyjack Maniacs" and other die hard fans, including some of the AGR guys, drove themselves to Huntsville to support us.
We came out prepared for a fight, but were able to defeat them easily. The Sam fans tried to get into the match by heckling and screaming, but it was to no avail. Our fans filled their gym with SFA chants and cheers. After a week full of practice we faced UTSA. This match was surprisingly uneventful. We were able to shut them down quickly and easily. Our quick offense and scrappy defense did not allow the Roadrunners an opportunity to get into a rhythm. After the game, we met with our parents and then went out to eat. At dinner Laura Cramer and I discussed how insane it was that we were seniors and that the next game would be the last we would ever play. It didn't feel like we were old enough yet. The seniors are supposed to be old and nearing adulthood, and there is no way I should fall into that category.
Before the match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi we took time out to announce the seniors. Laura Cramer, Stephanie Figgers, Cristin Hopkin, and I were all recognized with our parents. Tears were shed, but there was no time for sentiment; we had a game to play. The team played hard which allowed each one of us to make it onto the court at least one more time. When the game was over, we sang the Alma Mater one last time. Then we went upstairs for a reception in the Murray Shaw room.
Once we were all upstairs, Coach spoke about each one of us. There was a good group of people up there to enjoy the moment. When Coach's speech was over, she gave us the team gift: a scrapbook. Each one of our teammates and coaches made a page for each of the seniors. This scrapbook is one of the most amazing gifts I have ever received. I know that years from now I will look at this scrapbook and remember all the amazing experiences I had and people I met through the Ladyjack volleyball.
Wednesday, we have the opportunity to clinch a share of the conference title with a win over UTA in Arlington.
