Ladyjacks Tab Samarah Hill as Assistant Coach

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Head Coach Debbie Humphreys has named Samarah Hill as Assistant Coach. Hill joins the Ladyjack staff after spending the two seasons in Switzerland as a professional player for the Düdingen Volley Powercats.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Stephen F. Austin's volleyball program," said Hill. "I'm excited to be back in the college game in a new role after my experiences as a player. I'm looking forward to sharing what I've learned throughout my career with the team. I'm thankful to Coach Humphreys and the staff for believing and welcoming me to the Ladyjack family. I can't wait to get in the gym, build relationships with our team, and do everything I can to help this program continue to grow and compete at the highest level."

While playing in Switzerland, Hill earned multiple MVP selections and top scorer honors in league play. Prior to her time overseas, she played her graduate season at Rice in 2024 where she posted a career high 311 kills, 3.17 kills per set, 22 aces, and 252 digs. She posted seven double-doubles and set a new career high with 29 kills against Wichita State (11/8). Hill earned AAC First Team All-Conference and AAC Offensive Player of the Week and AAC Honorable Mention Player of the Week.
Before her final collegiate season at Rice, Hill spent five seasons at LSU where she was named to the 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team, the 2019 Lumberjack Classic All-Tournament Team, the 2019 Cyclone Invitational All-Tournament Team and earned two SEC Freshman of the Week honors during the 2019 season. She appeared in 67 matches and 206 total sets and tallied 459 kills on a .202 hitting percentage during her Tiger career. Hill also registered 382 digs and 81 total blocks. She started every match as a freshman in 2019, averaging 2.59 kills per set and eclipsing 10 kills in eight matches. Hill redshirted in 2021 due to injury and returned in 2022 to make seven starts and play in 62 sets where she averaged 2.16 points, 1.92 kills and 1.10 digs per set. She played in 13 matches in 2023, registering 37 kills on a .202 hitting percentage, and posting a season-high nine kills and nine blocks against Mississippi State. She was a five-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll recipient while with the Tigers.
A native of Oviedo, Florida, Hill graduated from Trinity Prep School in Winter Park, Florida where she was a three-time district champion and was a Second Team All-American. She totaled 653 kills, averaging over five kills per set, and recorded a .372 hitting percentage during her high school career. Hill was named an Under Armour All-American Honorable Mention, finished third with her OTVA club team at AAU nationals in 2016 and second in 2017, while Hill was thrice named an AAU All-American. She also competed in track & field at Trinity Prep, placing second in the triple jump at the 2018 state championships and third in 2019.
