Ladyjacks Secure SLC Championship Berth with Dominant Sweep Over UIW Cardinals

Camryn Hill and Ilana de Assis recorded their second straight double-doubles to lead SFA to their 15th SLC Championship match.
COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program faced off against No. 4 seeded UIW Cardinals looking to avenge their lone conference loss in the conference semifinals.
The first set was a battle the entire set as neither team held more than a three-point lead the entire set. Both teams were successful siding out and traded three-point mini runs throughout a set that featured 19 ties and eight lead changes. SFA had the first set point at 24-22, but UIW responded with back-to-back points. Both teams sided out the next seven points before the Cardinals took a slight advantage at 29-28. SFA rattled off three straight points with a kill from Camryn Hill, then one from Jordan Henderson and finished off the set with an ace from Katherine Holtman to win the first set 31-29.
SFA put the pedal to the medal in the second set by jumping out to a commanding 8-1 lead that was punctuated by back-to-back kills from Hill. UIW fought back with a mini three-point run to cut the deficit to three, 9-6. SFA responded with a four-point spurt to extend their lead to 13-6. The 'Jacks cruised to a 25-14 second set victory to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, both teams sided out the first eight points to tie it at four. Later in the set, the Cardinals were up 11-7 but SFA tied it up with four straight points. Both teams traded blows the rest of the set. However, the Ladyjacks won the final four points of the set and secured a 25-19 third set victory off a kill from Kyanna Creecy.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA avenged their lone conference loss against the UIW Cardinals and hold a 13-3 series lead.
• Ilana de Assis led the team with 17 kills followed closely by Camryn Hill with 14 kills.
• Caroline Kahle held down the back line with 14 digs, with de Assis and Hill tacking on 13 digs each for their second straight double-doubles.
• Jayden Flynn ran the offense with 27 assists with Zoe Gun following with 18 assists.
• Jordan Henderson was a monster at the net by leading the team with seven blocks and added eight kills of her own.

SFA will face off against No. 2 seeded UTRGV in the Championship match tomorrow, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. The 'Jacks defeated the Vaqueros in five at home earlier this season and will look to secure their seventh SLC Tournament Championship.
