Ladyjacks Tabbed to Repeat as Southland Conference Champions

SFA receives eight of the 12 first-place votes and edges out UTRGV for the top spot.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Volleyball team has been ranked first in the 2026 Southland Conference Preseason Poll, earning eight first-place votes. This top ranking comes as the Ladyjacks prepare to defend their 2025 SLC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.
The Southland Conference preseason poll is voted on by either an institution's head coach or sports information director, with one vote per school. Voters rank the predicted order of regular-season finish, excluding their own institution. The 2026 Southland Conference Women's Volleyball Championship will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas from November 20-22.
The team's strong preseason position highlights the significant contributions of standout players Caroline Kahle, Katherine Holtman, and Kyanna Creecy, who are expected to play pivotal roles in the upcoming season. Kahle was named to the 2025 SLC All-Tournament Team, while Holtman and Creecy have both secured First Team All-SLC honors in previous seasons. Holtman earned back-to-back First Team All-SLC selections and was named SLC Freshman of the Year in 2024.
This year's roster consists of 10 returners, five newcomers, and two transfers, promising a blend of experienced players and fresh talent ready to make an impact.
SFA has a successful history in season openers, having won their past four, with their last defeat in an opener occurring in 2021 against North Carolina. Under the guidance of head coach Debbie Humphreys, the Ladyjacks boast a 20-18 record in season openers and have triumphed in 8 of their last 10 opening matches.
The Ladyjacks will kick off their season against Idaho State on August 28th at 10:00 a.m. during the Wichita State tournament in Wichita, Kansas. This matchup marks only the second meeting between the two programs, with Idaho State having previously bested SFA 3-1 in September 2010.
