
WELLS NAMED SOFTBALL COACH

NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin athletics department officials announced today the hiring of Jenifer Wells as head coach of the Ladyjack softball program. Wells will take over the program immediately.
A 1997 graduate of Oklahoma City University, Wells began her coaching career at Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Okla. as an assistant coach in 1996. She returned to Oklahoma City University in 1997 as a graduate assistant, then moved on to Tulsa University for the 1998-99 season before returning to the Oklahoma high school ranks at Sapulpa High School from 1999-2001.
Wells took over as the head coach at Pittsburg State in 2001 and posted a .540 winning percentage during her four years with the Gorillas. Her teams won almost 60 percent of their games over the past three seasons including a 44-win season in 2003. In four years at Pittsburg State, Wells posted a 127-108 record and has gone 109-76 over the past three seasons.
Eleven Pittsburg State athletes earned postseason honors over the past three years with 11 athletes also earning academic all-conference honors. Her teams have also qualified for the MIAA postseason tournament each of the past two seasons.
The Ponca City, Okla. native was a three-time NAIA and national Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American catcher at OCU from 1994-96, helping the Stars to three straight NAIA national championships.
