
Ladyjacks Swept At Baylor

WACO, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team fell to 12-23 on the year following a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Baylor Lady Bears. Baylor, 36-5 on the year scored runs early in both games then managed to hang on as SFA mounted challenges late in both contests.
Baylor struck for a pair of runs in the first inning of the opener and added single runs in the third and fourth innings to move out to a 4-0 going into the fifth inning. The Ladyjacks scored three runs with two outs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Carrie Woydziak.
Baylor answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the 7-5 win. Traci Moore (3-8) was tagged with the loss in game one after earning the start and allowing two runs on one hit and walking two in two and a third innings pitched.
The nightcap was similar to game one as Baylor moved out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. Julie Morse (4-6) started game two and worked only an inning and two-thirds in taking the loss in the nightcap. Morse gave up two runs on four hits and did not strike out a batter before giving way to Nicole Carter who worked 2.1 innings and gave up one run on one hit and struck out two.
Trailing 7-1 going into the sixth inning, SFA erupted for a five run inning to narrow the margin to 7-6. SFA collected eight hits off Baylor pitching in game two.
Carrie Woydziak was 5-8 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI in the doubleheader. Ragen Rutherford also went 3-6 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored. She had a solo homer in game one, her second of the season. Nicole Carter was also 3-6 with a double in the two games.
SFA returns to Southland Conference action this weekend, hosting UL-Monroe. The SLC doublehader starts Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
