NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Stephen F. Austin athletics director Steve McCarty announced today that Jennifer Poulsen has stepped down as head coach of the softball program following a 16-30 season for the Ladyjacks. Her resignation ends a four year stay with the program in which SFA posted a 77-139 record.
SFA went 9-51 in her first season with the program, but followed that with a 27-31 record in her second season and just missed out on qualifying for the Southland Conference postseason softball tournament. The Ladyjacks went 23-27 in 2003 and once again missed the SLC postseason field by a single game. The Ladyjacks stumbled to a 16-30 mark in 2005 including an 8-19 record in conference play, finishing in ninth place in the conference race.
"Coach Poulsen came to SFA in 2002 with the goals of reaching the tournament and challenging for a conference title, but unfortunately circumstances did not allow that. For that reason, she has decided to step down as head coach of the softball team. We will now begin a nationwide search to find the best person available to take over and help us achieve those goals," said McCarty.
