NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Centenary Ladies pitcher Jessica Ivins carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning in helping Centenary to a 2-0 complete game shutout of the SFA Ladyjacks (4-12) Wednesday night. Ivins allowed an infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning to Carrie Woydziak for SFA's first hit of the night and did not allow a run as she faced only four batters over the minimum to pick up the win.
Traci Moore (0-3) started and worked two innings in taking the loss. Moore gave up an unearned run in the top of the first inning following an error on second baseman Sidney Rutherford. Centenary then moved the runner to third with a sacrifice and later scored on a line drive double to the gap in right center off the bat of Nicah Rhodes. Centenary added another run in the top of the seventh with one out. Lory Kowaleski singled and later scored after Lindsey Jones doubled to the fence in center. Kowaleski momentarily stopped at third when the throw came in from the outfield and then came home on a delayed relay.
Woydziak's infield single in the fifth and an infield hit by Kristina Swart in the bottom of the sixth inning were the only hits for SFA on the night. Swart's single led off the bottom of the sixth inning and she went to second base on a throwing error by the third baseman. Crystal Dahlquist then grounded back to the pitcher to sacrifice the runner to third, but a swinging strikeout and a fly ball to center ended the SFA threat.
Four SFA pitchers combined to hold Centenary to only two runs, one earned on six hits. Ladyjack pitching struck out seven.
SFA returns to action this weekend as the Ladyjacks travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State in a Southland Conference doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. ™
