
SFA Softball Goes 1-3 At USC Tournament

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team went 1-3 at the South Carolina Gamecock Softball Tournament over the weeken to open the 2005 season. SFA posted a 10-5 win over UNC-Greenville to open the tournament, then dropped a 6-0 decision to host team, South Carolina.
Sunday, SFA fell to Coastal Carolina, 1-0 in the first game and then dropped a 14-6 decision to UNC-Greenville to wrap up the tournament.
The Ladyjacks hit .297 as a team through the four games with Crystal Dahlquist leading the way with a .500 average in 12 at-bats. Dahlquist had six singles and was also 3-4 on stolen base attempts in the four game set. Kristina Swart also hit .444 (4-9) with an RBI. Tara Hersey provided the run production for the 'Jacks with six hits in 14 at-bats, driving in five runs. Hersey had three doubles in the tournament.
Jessica Tullos also drove in five runs while hitting .231 (3-13) with two doubles. Ragen Rutherford also picked up a pair of RBIs while collecting three hits and scoring three runs.
Julie Morse picked up the only win for SFA in the tournament, working 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits in the opener with UNCG. Morse struck out five and walked four batters. She worked 11.2 innings in the tournament and had a 2.31 ERA. She struck out 11 batters and walked six.
SFA returns to play Saturday with a scheduled doubleheader against Texas Southern beginning at 1:00 p.m.
