NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will to rebound from its disappointing 73-66 setback at Tulsa eight days ago, as it kicks off its longest homestand of the season Friday night against Jackson State. The game will open a three-game homestand for SFA that will conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule, and open up Southland Conference play. The Ladyjacks enter the game with a 5-5 (.500) overall record. Jackson State is 2-7 (.222) on the season, and has dropped its last four consecutive games, and five of its last six.
SFA vs. the Lady Tigers: The Ladyjacks trail the all-time series to Jackson State, 3-2 (.600). The Ladyjacks ended a two-game win streak by Jackson State last season when they recorded a 62-49 victory over the Lady Tigers at the Lady Pirate Classic in Greenville, N.C. The Ladyjacks only other win in the series came in the 1982-83 season, when SFA recorded a 77-64 decision. The series dates back to the 1981-82 season when the Lady Tigers recorded a one-point victory, 73-72.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 333-85 (.797) all-time record. The Ladyjacks have won 69 of their last 83 games at home and are a perfect 2-0 at home this season.
196 Down, Four To Go: SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is only four wins shy of career victory No. 200. Riley currently stands at 196 all-time wins in her 11 seasons as a head coach.
Records are Meant to be Broken: The Ladyjacks set a new school record Wednesday night at Tulsa, from beyond the three-point arc. SFA connected on its first five three-pointers of the game, and finished the night 11-for-22 (50 percent) from beyond three-point range. The 11 three-pointers eclipse the previous record of nine which has been set five times in school history, most recently on Dec. 2, of this year against High Point. The Ladyjacks currently lead the Southland Conference with 6.6 three-pointers per game, and are second in the league with .365 three-point field-goal percentage.
Career-High: Point guard Nikki Carr sparked the Ladyjacks record-setting night from beyond the three-point line Wednesday by knocking down a career-high four three-pointers. She finished the game with 14 points on 5-of-7 (71 percent) shooting, including a 4-of-6 (67 percent) performance from three-point land.
Need ASSISTance: Just four days after setting a new career-high in points, sophomore point guard Nikki Carr set a new career-high in assists. Carr dished out nine assists against Tulsa, erasing her previous career-high of eight, which she set twice as a freshman. The nine assists are the most for a Ladyjack since Latisha Prater dished out 10 against Nicholls State during the 2001-02 season.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks tip off SLC action Thursday Jan. 5 when they host Nicholls State at 7 p.m. SFA will be back in action two days later against Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lady Lions is set to tip off at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
