Softball Opens Season Next Week

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The 2005 edition of the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team in busy preparing for next week's opener at the University of South Carolina Gamecock Tournament, in Columbia, SC.
The Ladyjacks open tournament play Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. against UNC-Greensboro and then will tangle with tournament host South Carolina at noon Saturday. The Ladyjacks will then take on Coastal Carolina Sunday morning at nine with another game set for later Sunday afternoon based on seeding through the first three games of the tourament.
SFA enters 2005 with a nucleus of returning players which includes OF Carrie Woydziak, an All-SLC performer a year ago after leading the team in 11 offensive categories. Woydziak enters her junior season after hitting .403 a year ago with 60 base hits. Joining her in the line-up will be Lee Lara, who hit .321 last season while helping SFA to a 23-27 record.
Following the trip to South Carolina, the Ladyjacks return home to open the home portion of their schedule with a Feb. 12 doubleheader against Texas Southern.
