
SFA Falls 4-3 To Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- SFA fell to 0-2 in Southland Conference play Saturday afternoon in falling 4-3 to Sam Houston on the opening weekend of conference play. The 'Jacks scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings but gave up a pair of runs in the seventh to lose 4-3 to the Bearkats (8-10, 2-0).
Crissy Autry (3-4) worked the final two-thirds of an inning and was tagged with the loss as she gave up two runs on a hit. Neither of the Sam Houston runs were earned.
Crista Hargrove led the offensive attack for the 'Jacks as she went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Crystal Dahlquist and Lee Lara scored the other runs for the 'Jacks. Tara Hersey went 2-3 while Ashley Schlegel and Nicole Carter had one hit each. SFA scored three runs on six hits, but committed two errors in the game. Sam Houston scored four runs on six hits and also made three errors.
Nicole Carter got the start for the 'Jacks and gave up two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings. Traci Moore then came on in relief and worked 3.2 innings allowing only one hit. Autry worked the bottom of the seventh trying to protect a one run lead, but gave up the two runs to take the loss.
The series wraps up Sunday with a single game at 1:00.
