
Ladyjacks Defeat Jackson State

Greenville, N.C. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got 30 points and 17 rebounds from junior LaToya Mills Sunday afternoon as SFA defeated Jackson State, 62-49, in the consolation game of the US Cellular/Lady Pirate Classic. The Ladyjacks are now 2-3 (.400) on the season.
The Ladyjacks never trailed against Jackson State, building a nine-point advantage with 11:56 remaining in the first-half. The Lady Tigers rallied to cut the lead to only one point, 21-20, with 6:25 on the clock. Carena Easley led JSU with 13 points on 6-of-12 (.500) shooting, but SFA was able to extend the lead to 10 points, 30-20, at halftime.
Senior Zedralyn Butler helped the Ladyjacks push their lead to 16 points in the second half as she added 12 points on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting. The Lady Tigers never made a serious challenge after that as SFA outrebounded Jackson State, 49-36.
Junior Britany Vinson added six points and five rebounds. Senior Jaliyla Muhammad scored four points and grabbed six rebounds in the victorious effort.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Dec. 10, when they return home to host Southern. The game against the Jaguars is slated to begin at 6 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
